The autumn break came and went. I personally had 2 exams I retook from last semester.
The pressure to complete the elective module, IS-115 PHP, weighs on my conscience. At the same time, there is a significant emotional focus on completing the project course, IS-310, as it directly impacts the execution of the bachelor thesis.
At times, I also notice the scattered focus that arises from overthinking and overprocessing solutions when working alone. There are days when I struggle to get started. On other days, I need reminders to stop, go home, rest, and relax.
The scope of the project itself is gradually narrowing, as we envision it as a potential development step beyond the internship period.
The pages are nearly ready for publication. After the presentation to the Stake Presidency, there may be an opportunity for analysis and exploration of an unknown extent. It will then be natural to follow up with certain stakeholders/organizations and get relevant feedback for further scope development.

jaime.montanares.no
My personal profile page has been quite empty and underdeveloped. It doesn’t feel natural for me to share about myself online. Despite my broad interest in all things technology, social media and its invasion of privacy have never appealed to me.
I put in some work to add information but haven’t published it yet. Still waiting to find or obtain a profile picture I’m comfortable posting.
drammenstav.no
Not much progress on implementation today.
However, I did spend some time reviewing language and rules for the privacy page. There’s a template suggestion built into WP, but I’ve compared it to what exists on the official Church pages, and it’s significant enough that I believe this should be delegated to someone with more responsibility within the organization.
IS-302 Internship Project Course:
Starting to test out different diagrams and other visual aids to document my understanding for the final report.
This is being done now so I can take an informal introspective look at what the plan was, how the scope has changed, and what remains to be done, but mostly why.
Even though I explore other solutions, I keep returning to https://www.drawio.com/.
Distractions
This journal is about a project and what we learn about production work, as well as the preliminary, ongoing, and post-investigation. But what might be under-communicated in daily production life is the dead time, personal distractions shifted to natural and personal priorities. This is something I have felt and noticed at times as a student. It’s not easy, especially with other courses where you want to succeed by acquiring new knowledge and applying it. Often, they provide support, as I am studying PHP in another course this semester. With each module, I feel like I understand more about what I’m looking at when using the WP platform. At the same time, there’s a certain time pressure, as the internship project has a very short window to succeed in production. My mind craves knowledge, while another part of me craves productivity.
“Things take time” was something we were told in military service. This has also been very true in the working world. The truth doesn’t make it any less frustrating for a lone developer sitting in an office hidden somewhere on campus or in a church building.
Sometimes I wonder how different it would be if I could work with others on a project or at a workplace. There are both good and not-so-good sides to that too. The shared knowledge and discussions about how things can be done are only positive, but how much more might I get distracted by chatting about everything and nothing? In my previous career, this wasn’t a problem—we had very clear and firm rules for production, and when you follow the rhythm of a physical production department with mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical machines, it’s not something you think about. “Things take time,” “I can’t drive faster than the truck allows,” or “let’s slow down so we don’t hurt ourselves”—these are golden.

Time: 12:00-20:00
Tasks:
Implement calendar sync
We have reviewed different plugin solutions in previous meetings, and there are two main solutions:
Event Calendar
ICS Calendar
The Event Calendar essentially functions for sites that need to manage and publish “Events,” with a database handling information about the organizer, location, date, time, and additional details.
ICS Calendar also now handles events in the Pro version of the plugin. However, it was initially created for exporting and importing calendar files in ICS format. We considered using it to import an external calendar from the Church’s official website, thereby limiting unnecessary data processing on our website.
Today, I attempted to implement these different solutions while ensuring we didn’t step outside our scope, which includes a restriction not to develop tools already available on the Church’s official website at https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/calendar/month.
There is an argument that the entire calendar page might exclude the need for such a page on drammenstav.no. However, we discussed that as long as we only displayed a page synchronized to a URL, it would likely be acceptable. At a later stage, we can determine if the website users even check the calendar, and if not, we can deactivate the page.
I finally succeeded when I discovered that WordPress operates with something called Shortcode: https://developer.wordpress.org/plugins/shortcodes/
It turns out there will be some coding in my development work after all.
STATUS = NOCODE → LOWCODE.

I made another attempt to get WP working locally.
I think we’ll put the goal of developing Drammenstav.no locally on hold.
I’ll continue to explore this for possible success with jaimemontanares.no.
After gaining access to drammenstav.no, we implemented a few plugins together and created some test pages during the meeting.
I then explored some alternative solutions for ICS handling that better fit our needs.
Suggestions were found and shared via the shared channel.
Then, I created some simple proposals for other pages, which were published privately (admin view only).
Finally, I updated the homepage with a new image and wording.

Meeting Summary - (13.09.24)
Time: 09:00 - 10:00
Key points from the meeting:
Development Progress:
There have been delays in site development due to challenges with secure password sharing. This has now been resolved, and development can proceed.
Shared Login:
Everyone now has access to Drammenstav.no for development. The main focus is on security and compliance with privacy regulations. It was decided to close the comments section, as it is not considered necessary.
Website Structure and Content Prioritization:
The initial focus is on static pages, while dynamic functions are deprioritized for now.
Priority topics for publication are temple information and the Stake calendar.
Plugins:
Plugin installation requires prior approval.
The work follows a zero-budget principle.
Jetpack and UpdraftPlus are installed and function as backup solutions.
Calendar Solution:
Discussed integration of "The Events Calendar" with the option for synchronization via CSV file.
The calendar will be updated with temple dates and other events, with quarterly maintenance.
Design and Templates:
The website uses the standard "Twenty Twenty-Four" theme.
It will be explored whether there are smarter and more customized solutions that can be implemented.
The focus is on a cohesive design.
Further Work:
Website development will continue throughout the workday.

Updates
During the internship period, I will be alternating between several areas where I will be working. Sometimes for practical reasons related to the nature of the project task, but mostly due to the high competition for finding a suitable quiet corner at the UiA Campus, I will occasionally be at the church building in Slettheia.
The church building is largely quiet during regular working hours, facilitating evening activities for church members and friends. Most church meetings are around the weekend, especially on Sunday, also known as the Sabbath.
On this specific day, I am working on texts and planning what to communicate on Friday.
Benjamin and I have decided on weekly video meetings to update each other and discuss questions and suggestions. We eventually chose WhatsApp.

Today, most of the time was spent researching the wording of potential policies for website development by Stakes. I also spent considerable time comparing other websites with our ideas, especially noting their choices in features and appearance. The quality varies greatly.
The plan is to discuss my findings during tomorrow’s meeting, as well as to receive advice and guidance on the project pages and what I can present about the organization.
Planning and Project Work

Date: 26.08.24 - 29.08.24
Very variable times over several days.
Communication was conducted via email to establish, among other things, a collaboration agreement.
I kept Benjamin Weggersen updated with various documents and general progress on the project.
Date: 30.08.24
Time: 08:00 - 18:00
A lot of time spent setting timelines in a project management platform. Trying a new tool in ClickUp, which gives me greater control over how things are visually presented as graphs like Gantt charts, beyond the Kanban boards I’ve mostly used.
I hope to use ClickUp to export things more easily to reports as they become more finalized.
Most of this week has likely been spent setting up the project pages.

Date: 23.08.24
Time: 08:15 - 16:42
Already late for a birthday celebration, and here I am, documenting that there has been learning and some progress.
From a previous phone meeting between me and Benjamin Weggersen, it was suggested and decided that I should use WordPress.org as an open-source solution for the project task. I had hoped to apply it today to create this website.
It didn’t work out. It’s not easy to feel smart when all it takes is succeeding once at something productive to feel the complete opposite. It brings up a lot of emotions when trying to be productive with things one doesn’t yet master.
Received a tip from Armand about simpler formatting. For some reason, it was hard to make things easy this time. But finally, I think it was around lunchtime, I bit the bullet, got over my pride, and used Google Drive, Sites, and other tools to set things up today.
WordPress will have to wait until tomorrow. Meanwhile, at least I have something to refer to.
